Hi! Loving your meta on suibian :)) Just wondering what were your frustrations with cql, especially considered you've watched this in multiple mediums? (I've only watched cql)

So when I started interacting with the fandom and reading people’s fics, I got really confused by the way some folks were writing dialogue for Lan Wangji; he often sounded super awkward, spoke in fragments, and sometimes exclusively in third person. To be fair, all of those are elements of his speech at various times, but like, seeing it in English-language material felt like a really heavy-handed way of rendering it in translation?

This AU invaded my brain last night while I was trying to fall asleep, so here’s a bullet list of headcanons so I can get them out of my head/record them somewhere for potential later usefulness. Born out of me reading a thread on Twitter (that I of course can’t find anymore) about the punk group active in Chicago (I think? probably more than one city, but specifically where the author lived) in the ’90s that was organized specifically to keep fascists out of punk clubs. AU where Yanli and Zixuan survive, which means JGY doesn’t have a chance to go full Evil Gremlin because you know that if they’d had time Jin “lonely rich boy childhood” Zixuan and Jiang “overactive maternal instincts” Yanli would have absolutely had a huge brood of kids - so if he spends more than three hours at a time cooped up in his study, he gets utterly overrun by a small army of loud and obnoxious Jin babies (+ their puppies) yelling about how if he doesn’t come out for dinner mama’s gonna come in and drag him out herself, so help her.

I would like for you to consider that, of all the Yunmeng sibs, Jiang Yanli can curse both Wei Wuxian and Jiang Cheng under their table. It comes from frequenting the fish markets and the piers, and listening and observing carefully before proceeding to haggle her way through the week’s shopping. The first time bb!Wei Ying heard her switch into sailor speak he stared at her with huge huge eyes and said “can you teach me”

I was re-reading some of my fav Rurouni Kenshin fics recently and since MDZS owns my soul, I immediately started thinking of Kenshin interacting with MDZS characters (Ignoring that they’re, what, at least 1000 years apart? xD). The fact that Wei WuXian is still empathizing with Nie MingJue during this scene leads me to believe that Nie MingJue was, perhaps, not a fierce corpse. He was still very much alive even if it was a strange half-life. Jin GuangYao also orders Xue Yang to kill him (They use Baxia! How evil can you get!?) and you can’t kill someone that isn’t alive/is already dead. So CQL Nie MingJue did not die by qi deviation. He died by decapitation.

Yanli knows that it’s not fair, because she has come out with the better half of the bargain–she gets to stay at Lotus Pier with her brothers, her people, her home. Jin Guangyao has been married off, outside of his Clan, practically abandoned to the plain faced sister of a Sect Leader; the second choice after his older brother’s engagement to her fell through with devastating finality. She doesn’t know if that bothers him–it would have driven A-Cheng to near lunacy, had the same happened to him. But Jin Guangyao has been patient in all of their meetings, his manner pleasant, his smile gentle.

In that scene when JC hallucinates his family at Lotus Pier, do you think it’s a memory or what he /wishes/ had happened? Because I remember in the novel it said that the number of times JFM picked him up could be counted on one hand or something, but in the hallucination he’s very physically affectionate with JC

so what if modern nie sect BUT with tattoos (and nmj’s got “dage” tattooed on his forearm with baby nhs’s writing) (nhs started with making projects for his friends and afmily and for fun and eventually became tattoo artist himself)

maybe yunmeng jiang IS the fun slutty sect but we didn’t notice because Wei Wuxian and Jiang Cheng are virgins who can’t drive. *** Xichen is the guy you catch at the club making it with some random twink at 3 a.m. on what is technically a Sunday morning and then six hours later your miserable hungover self meets him in church introducing the twink to the Jesus Karens like “Meng Yao is new in town and I just thought he should come out and meet the gang!” and they’re all super charmed. He looks fresh as a fucking daisy even though Instagram confirms he didn’t make it to bed last night.

The last year before Jin Zixuan figures out that his father will only ever love him as an accessory to his power is also the year that he meets Luo Qingyang. For a long time, he thinks of it as the last truly happy year of his life. The Luos are a long-time family of the Jin sect. Most of them live in Lanling City, although there are a few cousins living farther out in the more rural areas. It is to these cousins that Jin Zixuan will go to learn to ride horses the year he turns eleven.

Canon: The Untamed Jiang Yanli didn’t know Nie Huaisang very well. He’d been close with A-Xian and A-Cheng during their time in the Cloud Recesses, but Jiang Yanli was older and had made her own friends at the time; she’d pretended ignorance of her brothers’ and Nie Huaisang’s antics, while engaging in some (much subtler and better-hidden) antics of her own. She had remained in touch with the young women who had been her friends from the lectures right up until the Wens came to Lotus Pier. Her last letter to Ouyang Anzheng had gone out right before she and her father left for Lanling.

this idea hit me today honestly i just want all of you to think about yllz huaisang our boys ends up kidnapped and beat by wen chao in retaliation for the death of wen xu and when they think he’s about to die wen chao just has him dropped in the burial mounds, crushed core and all, and the resentful energy that’s there just pulls him back together, reknitting his broken bones and filling the space where his weak golden core used to live and this time when they ask ‘don’t you want revenge nie huaisang’ he answers ‘of course i want revenge’ and so nie huaisang is rebuilt and instead of cultivating with a flute, he controls the resentful energy with his fans, flicking them this way and that to direct the energy and bend it to his will
