Second, defaults work because staying with the defaulted choice is easier than switching away from it. Third, defaults work because they endow decision makers with an option, meaning they\u2019re less likely to want to give it up, now that it\u2019s theirs. As a result, we hypothesized that default designs that trigger more of these channels (also called the three Es: endorsement, ease, and endowment) would be more effective.\r\n\r\nIn our analysis, we find partial support for this idea. That is, we find that studies that were designed to trigger endorsement (defaults that are seen as conveying what the choice architect thinks the decision maker should do) or endowment (defaults that are seen as reflecting the status quo) were more likely to be effective.\r\n\r\nIn addition, we find that defaults in consumer domains tend to be more effective, and that defaults in pro-environmental domains (such as green energy defaults) tend to be less effective.","username":"weinreich","tags":"behavior_change,design,environment,theory","count":"4"},{"id":"266530","user":"167","cdate":"2019-08-25 04:07:54","updated":null,"title":"How Soap Operas Can Help Communities Adapt to Climate Change","link":"https:\/\/www.newsecuritybeat.org\/2019\/08\/soap-operas-communities-adapt-climate-change\/","state":"public","note":"","username":"weinreich","tags":"entertainment_education,environment","count":"2"},{"id":"266529","user":"167","cdate":"2019-08-25 04:02:48","updated":null,"title":"How to spot a statistical problem: advice for a non-statistical reviewer | BMC Medicine | Full Text","link":"https:\/\/bmcmedicine.biomedcentral.com\/articles\/10.1186\/s12916-015-0510-5","state":"public","note":"","username":"weinreich","tags":"academia,quantitative,research","count":"3"},{"id":"266528","user":"167","cdate":"2019-08-25 03:58:40","updated":null,"title":"A New Model for Integrating Behavioral Science and Design - Behavioral Scientist","link":"https:\/\/behavioralscientist.org\/a-new-model-for-integrating-behavioral-science-and-design\/","state":"public","note":"","username":"weinreich","tags":"behavior_change,design,theory","count":"3"},{"id":"266504","user":"167","cdate":"2019-08-22 14:38:45","updated":null,"title":"Archives of Failures in Global Health | Nature Research Microbiology Community","link":"https:\/\/naturemicrobiologycommunity.nature.com\/users\/20892-madhukar-pai\/posts\/51659-archive-of-failures-in-global-health","state":"public","note":"","username":"weinreich","tags":"campaign_effects,international,policy,social_change","count":"4"},{"id":"266503","user":"167","cdate":"2019-08-22 14:35:48","updated":null,"title":"Why Guilt and Fear Appeals Backfire","link":"https:\/\/blog.funeasypopular.com\/why-guilt-and-fear-appeals-backfire","state":"public","note":"reactance","username":"weinreich","tags":"behavior_change,health_communication,theory","count":"3"},{"id":"266502","user":"167","cdate":"2019-08-22 13:14:03","updated":null,"title":"Two converging paths: behavioural sciences and social marketing for better policies | Emerald Insight","link":"https:\/\/www.emerald.com\/insight\/content\/doi\/10.1108\/JSOCM-04-2017-0027\/full\/html","state":"public","note":"This commentary argues that social marketing and the application of behavioural sciences to policy constitute two converging paths towards better policies. Using a simple model we show that \u201cedutainment\u201c can work through an individual or a social channel. We conducted a randomized controlled trial in urban Nigeria where young viewers were exposed to MTV Shuga or to a placebo TV series. Among those exposed to MTV\r\n\r\nShuga, we created additional variation in the social messages they received and in the people with whom they watched the show. We find significant improvements in knowledge and attitudes towards HIV and risky sexual behavior. Treated subjects are twice as likely to get tested for HIV eight months after the intervention. We also find reductions in STDs among women. These effects are stronger for viewers who report being more involved with the narrative, consistent with the psychological underpinnings of edutainment. Our experimental manipulations of the social norm component did not produce significantly different results from the main treatment. The individual effect of edutainment thus seems to have prevailed in the context of our study.","username":"weinreich","tags":"campaign_effects,entertainment_education,HIV_AIDS","count":"3"},{"id":"266086","user":"167","cdate":"2019-08-14 14:18:19","updated":null,"title":"Latrine design process becomes child\u2019s play - Elrha","link":"https:\/\/www.elrha.org\/project-blog\/latrine-design-process-becomes-childs-play\/","state":"public","note":"","username":"weinreich","tags":"behavior_change,design,international,youth","count":"4"},{"id":"266085","user":"167","cdate":"2019-08-14 14:08:37","updated":null,"title":"Condom Social Marketing Effects in Low- and Middle-Income Countries: A Systematic Review Update, 1990 to 2019. - PubMed - NCBI","link":"https:\/\/www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/pubmed\/31337242","state":"public","note":"The 2012 review found 6 studies (combined N = 23 048). This article addresses this knowledge gap by applying a co-design framework during the ideation stage of six public service design projects. The findings provide insights into (a) recruiting and sensitizing suitable service users, (b) conditions enabling users to co-design ideas, and (c) requirements for implementation of user-driven ideas. The article contributes an approach that shifts public service design away from an expert-driven process towards enabling users as active and equal idea contributors.","username":"weinreich","tags":"design,management,strategy,target_audience","count":"4"}],"used_tags":["behavior_change","design","storytelling","health_communication","social_media","research","how_to","strategy","theory","target_audience","sample_campaigns","social_network","technology","graphic_design","entertainment_education","social_change","social_marketing","management","inspiration","evaluation","gaming","mobile","advertising","online_marketing","media","quantitative","campaign_effects","marketing","policy","qualitative","creativity","youth","ethics","nonprofit","humor","obesity","mental_health","video","environment","branding","twitter","social_norms","international","product","consulting","conference","government","training","price","place","blogging","professional_resource","academia","tobacco","public_relations","social_marketing_blogroll","me","social_marketing_intro","substance_abuse","HIV_AIDS","filetype:pdf","media:document","nutrition","word_of_mouth","israel","organization","cause_marketing","partnerships","cgm","tutorial","media_advocacy","PSA","publication","top_ten","bibliography","no-tag","web3","focus_groups","personal_favorite","social_marketing_jobs","chronic_disease","bookreview","publics"],"tags":[],"pages":116,"title":"weinreich bookmarks:  - page: 36"}
