When Kaz explained the mission to her, he'd described a deep-sea fish whose scales could reverse the harmful, out of control magic that was razing the streets of Ketterdam. No one had expected to find this, a half-dead, half-Siren Shu floating in the depths of a ship.

That would explain a lot, as the dynamic within the band can only be described as a decidedly more aggressive version of The Breakfast Club. Namely: a lot of banter—most of which involves a lot of stinging and acerbic one-liners that are just waiting to be immortalized by the internet, enough hijinks to send any authority figure running, and a whole lot of waffles. (or, the band au no one asked for but which I wrote anyway)

modern-day college au. in which a group of fucked up kids become best friends in college, kaz has a breakdown, and everyone is forced to confront their collective issues. features an awkward romance, lots of dog cuddles, unhealthy coping mechanisms, and a blend of angst and fluff.

In a sun-drowned field, Alina reaches for you with kohl-smudged hands, and the world in her eyes. Somewhere, she’s long since sketched the shape of you enough to commit it to muscle memory. Somewhere, she’s long since pressed you in between the two heaviest books she could find; breathless. There’s blood dripping from her palms.

Nina looks at him like he’s an idiot. “Just keep the gloves on, then.” “What?” Kaz blurts. Or: Kaz Brekker conquers intimacy. It's both easier and harder than he planned.

Kaz had set aside his cane, hat and coat and he looked oddly delicate now, sitting beside her in his shirtsleeves and vest. His body was angled toward her as much as possible on the small sofa, holding her hand and keeping his bitter-coffee eyes trained on her face. His gloves were still on, but somehow she knew that it was due to the relative strangeness of her parents rather than to hide his hands from her. He held her hand so tightly that she could feel the little slits in the fingertips, little absences of contact from the leather covering the rest of her hand. ----------------------------- Takes place immediately following the events of Crooked Kingdom. We meet Inej's parents and get some closure for everyone involved.

Kaz recruits Wylan to help infiltrate the Ice Court. Wylan is under the impression that Jesper is flirting with him—until Jesper brings up his lost true love.

What if Kaz asked Jesper to help him get over his touch aversion, so he could be with Inej?

Every part of this is incredibly improper. Then again, the fact that it’s her and him is improper to begin with, so objecting on those grounds would really be closing the barn door after the horses.

Inej wasn't fond of parties. or, Nina and Inej reunite in an unlikely place.

There are plenty of fabricated stories about Dirtyhands and the Wraith. Kaz and Inej don't mind making up a few more. Five times Kaz and Inej lie about how they met, and one time they don't.

Wylan was supposed to die of old age. Jesper was supposed to have decades more at his side. Now he won’t. And Wylan’s determined that Jesper won’t follow him.

“It’s a myth.” “It’s not.” “It absolutely is.” “It is not,” Jesper groans. “Well, I've never done it-“ “I’ve never been on time to anything ever, darling, but that doesn’t mean punctuality isn’t possible.”
